"quit jumping! i'm awake, awake!"
so easy it'd be to tickle your feet, your sweet
toes moving from fabric, to air, to fabric, to hands
and knees to mattress, arms from sides to undersides
and face to mine, exactly what you are.
waking to you never gets old, even though we do
with every passing day, "hey, are you gonna get dressed?"
"i can't wait!" and i rise to my feet, as you taught me to do
and i walk to my closet, retrieve my clothing and begin
to cover my skin, only because you know what's underneath
and i walk to the living room, by our front door
and catch a glimpse of you once more.
only now, you're not quite blushing...but you will be, very soon.
i stand before you, shaven yet scruffy because i need not wear a mask
and you fall into my arms, head on my chest like you do every night of rest.
gorgeous smile soon to compliment a pretty dress
that you will wear not once, but once a year when we come back here.
you never knew and never will, how many days i am going to marry you.
